Wildcats run-rule Mules, 11-1

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team got back in the win column on Tuesday evening, as they took down the Muleshoe Mules, 11-1, at Wildcat Field to sweep the season series.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 11-8 overall, 4-2 in district play.

The Wildcats kept the Mules off the board in the top of the first, and scored the games first runs in the home-half of the inning to take a, 2-0, lead into the second inning. Muleshoe scratched a run back in the top of the second to cut the lead to, 2-1, but Littlefield would answer with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to stretch their lead to, 4-1.

After a scorless third for both teams, Littlefield would added a run in the fourth, before pushing six runs across in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule the Mules, 111.

Junior, Ian Mendez threw a complete game for the Wildcats, pitching five innings, giving up three hits, one walk and one run, while earning three strikeouts.

At the plate, the Wildcats totaled 10 hits, led by Isaiah Rodriguez, who tallied three RBI’s, two hits including a double and one walk. Mendez also chipped in three RBI’s and two hits, while Brenden Bowman contributed one RBI and two hits including a triple. Gabriel Villanueva added one hit for a double and Major McNeese finished with two hits in the contest.

The Wildcats will be at Lamesa on April 23rd for their second matchup with the Golden Tornadoes.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
