Lady Cats hold off Lady Mules, 5-4

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team held off a late push from the Muleshoe Lady Mules on Tuesday to take their second meeting of district play at home, 5-4.

With the win, the Lady Cats finish the regular season 14-6 overall, 4-4 in district play.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Cats scratched a run across to take a, 1-0 lead into the third inning. The score stood until the fifth inning, when the Lady Cats would push three more runs across, stretching their lead to, 40, going into the sixth inning.

Muleshoe would battle back and score three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game, 4-3, but Littlefield would add some insurance in the home-half of the sixth to make the score, 5-3, going to the seventh inning. Muleshoe added a run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough, as Littlefield held on for the victory, 5-4.

Natalia Sanchez pitched six innings for the Lady Cats, giving up nine hits, three walks and four runs, one earned, while earning five strikeouts. Cali Saldana pitched one inning, earning one strikeout, while giving up two walks in the contest.

The Lady Cats tallied eight hits at the plate, led by Bryndle Ray, who tallied two RBI’s, one hit for a homerun and a walk. Brinley Acevedo contributed two RBI’s and two hits including a double, while Saldana finished with one RBI and three hits.
