Bownds/sawyer punch ticket to regionals

Julie Bownds and Chloe Sawyer came into district as the #2 seed and played Brownfield in the first round, to which they won 6--2, 6-3. In the second round, they played #3 seed Lamesa in the semifinals, to which they won 6-2, 6-3.

In the Championship round, they took on the district champs and #1 seed Brownfield. Bownds and Sawyer lost the first set, 1-6, and had an extremely hard fought second set, losing 6-7 (6), which placed them in second place.

Numeber 4 seed Littlefield Madison Brown and Kaylee Soria also won third place, forcing a playback match for second place. Littlefield vs. Littlefield ended with Bownds and Sawyer winning, 6-2, 7-5, making them Regionals bound for the third year in a row.

Head Coach Matthew Arce stated, “Every year Julie/Chloe were on varsity they went to Regionals.” Brown and Soria brought home thirdrd place!

On JV, the girl’s doubles team of Iris Hernandez and Calissa Jouett had the toughest route to the championship, having to play into the bracket Iris/Calissa played Friona in the first round, winning, 8-1. In the second round, they played Lamesa to which at 2-2 one of Lamesa’s girls hurt her ankle, making them forfeit the game. In the Semi- Finals, they played Brownfield, to which they won, 85. In the championship the girls played in a hard fought game against another Brownfield team, but sadly lost 6-8.

Regionals will be at the Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene on May 8th and 9th.
